Best Student in the Chinese Exchange Program and the Chinese International Talent Exchange Foundation at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China

Professor Jun Liang Zhou, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), presented an award to our student ADRIAN HALIM, a 2022 Computer Science major, as the BEST STUDENT in the Chinese Exchange Program and the Chinese International Talent Exchange Foundation at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China.

Adrian has successfully developed the “Hierarchical Multi-Model Waste Classification System using YOLOv8,” which involved collaboration between Trisakti University, ITL Trisakti, Binus University, and IIT Indore, India. This system employs a two-stage architecture that divides classification into Stage 1 Router and Stage 2 Specialists to address the challenge of extreme data imbalance of 322:1 without relying on synthetic oversampling. Based on mathematical analysis, this model utilizes the Multi-Path C2f backbone mechanism, Spatial Pyramid Pooling Fast (SPPF), and Distribution Focal Loss (DFL) to achieve a live accuracy of 96% with an inference latency of just 0.032 seconds, representing a 97.4% reduction in processing time compared to traditional CNN methods. The system’s implementation has been end-to-end tested on IoT hardware using the MQTT protocol and is compliant with the national standard GB/T 19095-2019, demonstrating the technology’s readiness to support the circular economy at the urban scale.

Congratulations to Adrian Halim 🥳 and thank you for bringing honor to Trisakti University, especially the Computer Science Program. May this serve as an inspiration to your fellow students. 💐
